Poster and Trailer Analysis

The lighting on the child's face is dark, which connotes that he may be the villain in the movie but also it draws the audience in, as they will wonder if there is anything wrong with the child. The lighting used is high-key lighting, as the contrasts of light and dark creates mystery, as the child is dark, but the background is light. The child's eyes are lighter, which may connote he may be possessed, which would help draw attention towards the film. The lighting on the house in the background, is light, which connotes that the kid may live in that house, or have a connection with it. The left hand corner is lighter than the right side, which could suggest that the right side of the house is haunted, as the lighting is dark but also the child could be the cause of the house being haunted.

At the beginning of the trailer, there is a pitch black room and then a closet opens, with a monster jumping out. The lighting throughout the scene, could connote that the movie may be a horror, as the shadows create a mysterious atmosphere. When it gets to the middle, the lighting is low key, connoting that the characters are happy and its not a horror. When this happens it gives out mixed messages about the movie, which draws the audience's attention. The lighting when all the characters are in the hall way, connotes that it is a happy environment.
