Magazine image

This is the image I would put on my front cover of my magazine, as my magazine is a hair and beauty magazine. This picture shows healthy hair and a young women with clear skin, this shows that the magazine may include tips on how to keep your hair healthy and your skin clear. Her hair is brown, medium length, most young women have this type of hair so it will aim to many females and this will attract them to buy the magazine. In the magazone, there can be advertisements on how to keep your hair healthy and clean, as most women will aim for their hair and skin to be healthy as possible.

Media Award Video Analysis

The Paper Boy

The Paper Boy is set in a school, as in the beginning of the trailer there are kids in their uniform walking in a school, showing the scenery behind them. There is a scene when a group of boys are bullying another child. This scene is in black and white, which represents a flashback and creates suspense, as the audience will be wondering what happened. The music is non-diegetic, which adds to the suspense of what will happen. When the group of boys are bullying the boy, a long shot it used to show what they actually do to the boy and show the facial expressions of the other people in the shot.

The lighting used was low-key lighting, which contrasted well with what the issue was, bullying was obviously the issue and the audience can easily tell. During the trailer, it says 'the past will haunt you', and a paper boy is shown outside a car window, this tells the audience that there is something mysterious about the boy and he may be seeking revenge.

Inner Redemption

At first, due to the music and the acting you think that its a romance, but during the trailer it changes to a horror. This a hybrid, which makes the audience wonder what will happen next. The girl and boy act as if they are going to have a relationship  but when she comes to the door with blood on her hands, the audience can tell that's when the genre has changed. The music changed when the genre changed as well, which added to the effect it had to the audience. A nursery rhyme comes on, which confuses the audience, but also makes them wonder what will happen next.

A scene which added to the horror genre was at the end when the girl was turning her neck and you could a 'click click' sound every time she titled her head. This created suspense as the audience will get scared, and wonder what will happen to the girl. The props used in this scene added to create the tense atmosphere for the audience..

Fish Tank Review

Fish Tank Review

Director: Andrea Arnold. She has also directed Red Road and Wasp and Dog.

Main stars: Katie Jarvis, Micheal Fassbender and Kierston Wareing

Katie Jarvis has starred in a TV series called 'Perfect Day'. Kierston Wareing has starred in two TV series. Also starred in the film 'Its a Free World' and 'Rise of the Footsoldier. Micheal Fassbender has starred in '300', 'Agatha Christie'. He has also starred in the films 'Inglorious Bastards, 'Jonah Hex'.

Plot: The story is about a teenager who is stuck in this low class lifestyle and is trying to escape. There is a white horse in the film, which Mia connects with and try's to help it escape as it is tied down. This relates to her lifestyle, showing that she is tied down and wont be able to escape her life, and will have to accept it. She has dance talents, but is unable to do anything with them, as she cant get anywhere with her lifestyle. Also, in the end of them film when Mia is leaving, her mother and her younger sister do a dance together, which connotes that they may lead the same life and cannot escape a low class lifestyle no matter what they do.

Characters: Kierston Wareing plays the character Joanne, Mia's mother. Her acting was good, she showed real emotion throughout the film, especially when she had scenes with Mia.

Katie Jarvis plays the character Mia. Her acting skills were really good, she showed real emotion and allowed the audience to see what it would feel like to be in that situation. Sometimes I got confused with her emotions, I didn't really know what was going on.

Micheal Fassbender plays the character Connor, the boyfriend. He is a family man, who comes to Mia and her mother when he wants to change lifestyles. He was very good in showing his emotions and was convincing when he tried to portray himself as the good guy. The audience can see when he had feelings towards Mia and her mother, which allowed the audience to guess what was going to happen.

Genre: I think that the genre was Drama. The film revolved around a young girls life and how she gets through the struggles. There are moments which involve family life, for example I think most of the drama came from Mia and her mother.

Soundtrack: The music was parallel to what was being shown on the screen, for example when she was dancing in the room by herself, she was upset.

Audience: I think that this film is targeted to teenagers who are in similar situations and have a similar lifestyle to Mia. They will be able to connect with Mia and feel comfortable knowing that they aren't the only ones going through a rough time. Allowing the audience to see how others deal with their pain and anger, and may be follow them.

Analysis of a magazine cover

Title of publication: It is placed at the top of the cover and even though Mila Kunis' head is covering half of it, the magazine is well known so the audience will know which magazine it is.Wherever the magazine is placed on the shelf space, it will be recognised. It is written in bold capital letters, which will be visible to the audience.
Slogan:
Central image: The central image is of Mila Kunis, a famous actress. This is a strong image, as she is giving direct mode of address, which allows the magazine to connect with the audience, and will attract women and men. The 'flash' relates to the image as she has a flat belly, she may be giving tips to the audience of how to get her figure. The central image could  attract both a female and male audience.
'Flash': The flash is 'flatten your belly', this may link to Mila Kunis as she has a flat belly, she may be giving advice on how to get that image. That flash is the biggest one, and there are smaller ones surrounding the cover such as '25 ways to have fun with him'.
